On 24-7: Maintaining and Restoring the Grid
The most common causes of outages are severe weather and wildlife or trees contacting our power lines. Our region experiences, on average, 10 major storm events a year. When the power does go out, all outages are coordinated at our Operations Center is staffed 24-hours a day, 7 days a week.
Our teams are always monitoring the forecast to prepare for severe weather impacts on your power. When outages caused by severe weather occur, our crews can usually begin restoring power while a storm is still in progress. However, during severe storms, it may take several hours after the storm subsides before damage reports can be analyzed and prioritized to keep our crews safe.
Investing in your Electricity Reliability
It takes more than 8,000 miles of transmission and distribution lines to bring electric power to homes and businesses throughout Allegheny and Beaver counties. Our crews work hard to maintain these lines. As our region’s reliance on electricity increases, it’s more important than ever to upgrade existing infrastructure and enhance the grid so we can continue providing reliable, safe service.
We will invest a minimum of $1.9 billion in transmission and distribution infrastructure by 2027 – contributing to increased reliability and fewer outages for you. Learn more about our investments in electricity reliability below:
