Duquesne Light Company Surprises Three Charities with Hybrid Electric Vehicles
Company Delivers Unexpected Twist to #PowerItForward Campaign
PITTSBURGH – To demonstrate its Larger than Light commitment to its customers and the community, Duquesne Light Company continues its ongoing effort to #PowerItForward with a charitable giveaway that surprised the following three local charities with a plug-in hybrid compact passenger vehicle to drive its mission:
- Community Human Services (CHS)
- Northern Area Multi-Service Center (NAMS)
- Veterans Leadership Program of Western Pennsylvania, Inc. (VLP)

As part of its recently announced electric vehicle initiative, Duquesne Light and DQE Communications gave their customers the opportunity to decide which of the three local organizations would win a plug-in hybrid compact passenger vehicle by casting their votes online and at the 2017 Pittsburgh Home & Garden Show.
“We are dedicated to supporting the mission of organizations across our service territory by helping them Power It Forward,” said Jessica Rock, Vice President, Communications and Corporate Citizenship, Duquesne Light Company. “As we look to the future of our region, we want to make it a better place to live and help power progress in our communities. It is our hope that these hybrid electric cars will not only help a charitable organization with a transportation need, but drive Pittsburgh into tomorrow.”
Representatives from each organization, along with Duquesne Light employees and additional members of the community, gathered to hear the final winner announcement, only to be surprised and delighted when not just one – but three – hybrid electric vehicles drove out of the garage doors at the Company’s Woods Run campus on the North Shore.
Inspired by the “pay it forward” concept, Power It Forward is designed to inspire kindness and reciprocal goodwill among thousands of Pittsburghers, both on social media and on the City streets. This program first launched in November 2016 with the lighting of Duquesne Light’s Tree of Lights in Point State Park to help kick off the holiday season.
