Duquesne Light Company (DLC) rates for customers are determined by filings made at the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission. The entire filing is called a tariff. The tariff contains rules and regulations as well as the schedule of rates and riders for electric service as approved by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC).
Four Parts to Your Bill
A customer's bill is made up of four parts: Customer Charge, Distribution Charge, Supply/Generation Charge and Transmission Charge.
Customer Charge - A monthly basic service charge that includes costs for meter reading, customer billing, service equipment, and other expenses. We have these expenses even in months that you may not use electricity.
Distribution Charges - Basic service charges for delivering electricity over our distribution system to consumers home or business from the transmission system.
Supply/Generation Charges - Basic service charges for the supply of electricity to retail customers.
Transmission Charges - Basic service charges for the cost of transporting high-voltage electricity from a supply facility to the distribution lines of an electric distribution company.

Schedule of Rates
The schedule of rates or tariff is available for download in Adobe Acrobat Reader PDF format. This tariff has been approved by the PUC and currently is in effect. The tariff contains detailed information about the different rates available to residential customers (Residential Service (RS), Residential Service Heating (RH) and Residential Service Add-on Heat Pump (RA)). DLC has certified to the PUC that this is an accurate electronic representation of the tariffs which are officially filed at the Commission. Users of electronic tariffs should note, however, that such tariffs are not the official documents, and users assume responsibility for reliance upon tariffs in electronic format.
