PITTSBURGH – On National Lineworker Appreciation Day, Duquesne Light Company honors the men and women lineworkers who work tirelessly behind the lines to power the region 24 hours a day, seven days a week and 365 days a year. On July 10, Duquesne Light asks the community to join utilities nationwide to show their appreciation for lineworkers by using the hashtag #ThankALineworker on Facebook and Twitter.

To honor the nation’s lineworkers, the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) marked Monday, July 10 as National Lineworker Appreciation Day. The day was chosen as National Lineworker Appreciation Day in 2016 to commemorate IBEW’s founder and first president, Henry Miller.

“We are proud to recognize their hard work today and every day,” said Mike Doran, Vice President of Operations at Duquesne Light Company. “Often working in challenging climates or situations, their ‘wired differently’ mentality provides the region with safe and reliable electricity that powers moments in our lives; truly, they’re one of the reasons why we consider ourselves Larger than Light.”

Lineworkers are Pittsburgh’s unsung heroes, whose bravery and sacrifice keeps the lights on and powers Larger than Light moments in Duquesne Light customers’ lives. To thank lineworkers and show Pittsburgh the faces of those who work tirelessly behind the lines, Duquesne Light will highlight various lineworkers on Facebook and Twitter throughout the week.
