Duquesne Light Receives Arbor Day Foundation Tree Line USA Award for Proper Pruning, Planting and Care

Company celebrates award and Arbor Day with two community tree-planting events

PITTSBURGH – For the 16th year, Duquesne Light Company is being recognized by the Arbor Day Foundation with the 2017 Tree Line USA award for its commitment to proper tree pruning, planting and care in Allegheny and Beaver counties. Tree Line USA, a partnership between the distinguished tree conservation and education organization and the National Association of State Foresters, promotes the dual goals of delivering safe and reliable electricity while maintaining healthy community forests.

In honor of the award and commemoration of Arbor Day, Duquesne Light employee volunteers will be planting trees, shrubs, grass, and flowers on April 28 with two local organizations: Mount Nebo Church and Baden Academy Charter School. On the same day, Duquesne Light is also partnering with KaBOOM! to build a new playground at Baden Academy Charter School. Trees to be planted will help to provide shade and greenery for the new playground as they grow.

“Duquesne Light works hard to proactively manage trees and vegetation to ensure the level of reliability our customers have come to expect,” said Jennifer Arkett, Manager of Vegetation Management, Duquesne Light Company. “It’s truly an honor to continue to be recognized for our work and to give back to the community through various tree-planting events throughout the year.”

Duquesne Light is responsible for ensuring that 45,000 miles of overhead power lines remain free and clear of vegetation encroachments to safely keep the power flowing to its nearly 600,000 customers. Because trees are one of top causes of power outages, it’s important to make careful choices when planting. Duquesne Light encourages customers to plant the right tree in the right place.
