Duquesne Light Company Holds Graduation Event for Future Lineworkers
21 Students Earn Electrical Distribution Technology Certificates; Incoming Class Welcomed
PITTSBURGH – Duquesne Light Company recognized 21 graduates of the Electrical Distribution Technology (EDT) program at its Woods Run Training Facility in the North Shore on July 27. In partnership with the Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC), the program provides training for entry-level, skilled craft positions associated with the electric utility industry. Students who graduate from the program have an opportunity for employment at Duquesne Light.
“The EDT program is a collaborative partnership that offers students the robust training they need for a career in the electric utility industry,” said John Andzelik, Manager, Workforce Development, Duquesne Light. “We welcome the possibility to employ students who successfully complete this program when the opportunity allows.”
Just as this class graduates, Duquesne Light will begin training its 2018-19 class of EDT students on August 6. The company once again awarded full-tuition scholarships to three incoming students. The program will also continue to offer students a five-week rotational paid internship at the end of the first semester, as well as a two-month paid internship at the end of the second semester, where students will be placed in a department within the company.
The company’s EDT program first began in the fall of 2002 and has since evolved into a one-year program completed almost entirely at Duquesne Light facilities. Graduates earn a Certificate of Electrical Distribution Technology and 44 credits towards a 64 credit Associate’s Degree from CCAC. Those interested in learning more about the program and reviewing the selection criteria should visit the EDT page at duquesnelight.com/about/careers.
