Duquesne Light formally kicked off its annual United Way campaign on Sept. 12, with employees again ready to step up and help their neighbors in need.

The campaign — which runs from Sept. 12 through Oct. 31 — gives all employees the opportunity to make a difference by assisting children and adults in need throughout Western Pennsylvania, who are struggling to find shelter, food, medical treatment and support.

Donating to the United Way is a meaningful way for our employees to lend assistance to these individuals, and contributions are even more impactful with Duquesne Light matching every donation dollar-for-dollar.

Duquesne Light marked the start of the campaign by taking part in the United Way’s annual Day of Caring on Sept. 13. More than 100 employees gave back to the community by volunteering their time and services at 11 local nonprofit agencies including Animal Friends, Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, Human Services Center Corporation, JAA Council Care, Jubilee Kitchen, North Hills Community Outreach, Rainbow Kitchen Community Services, Southwestern Veterans Center, St. Barnabas Health System, The Education Partnership and Women’s Center & Shelter of Beaver County.

Employee assistance varied by agency and included preparing meals for the homeless, performing safety checks for seniors, stocking school supplies for teachers and making toys for cats and dogs.
