Vehicle electrification is a key component to the future of energy in our region. Duquesne Light is helping to pave the way by educating our customers and employees on the benefits of driving electric, which supports the overall mission of National Drive Electric Week. This year, Pittsburgh will be joining in the celebration with events at Bakery Square and Cranberry Commons Shopping Center on September 16.
National Drive Electric Week (September 9 – 17) is a celebration to spread awareness of the availability, convenience and efficiency of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. Since its launch in 2011 as National Plug In Day, National Drive Electric Week has changed its name and expanded into an entire week of events in cities across the nation.
On Saturday, September 16, Pittsburgh will be hosting events at Bakery Square and Cranberry Commons Shopping Center led by local electric vehicle drivers and advocates.
- Bakery Square will be hosting an informational and educational event with an electric vehicle display from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Research indicates that the lack of consumer knowledge is a significant barrier to electric vehicle adoption, which makes education and outreach an important portion of our electric vehicle initiative. Those who visit Bakery Square also will have the opportunity to take a ride and even test drive the vehicles.
- The Cranberry Township Shopping Center will be presenting the third annual Go Green Electric Car Show from noon to 5 p.m. This event is open to all owners, dealers and manufactures of a wide range of plug-in battery or hybrid electric vehicles, including cars, trucks, tractors and boats.

After announcing its four-part electric vehicle initiative in March, Duquesne Light Company continues its mission to drive Pittsburgh into the energy-efficient future by evaluating technologies that can be implemented to further electrify our fleet. Throughout this week, we will be sharing information on our Facebook and Twitter platforms in support of National Drive Electric Week.
National Drive Electric Week is sponsored by Plug In America, Sierra Club, and Electric Auto Association, which serve as the national team supporting all local events.
