Duquesne Light Company (DLC) is donating $10,000 to the Dollar Energy Fund for the second year in a row after just one day of social media fundraising through its Power It Forward campaign. Dollar Energy Fund provides utility assistance grants to limited-income families and individuals in the region, which are of particular need during the cold winter months.

Launched on Nov. 17, 2017, DLC matched every social media engagement captured on its channels over a 24-hour period with a $5 donation on behalf of its customers. Along with engagements on social media, DLC matched every $5 text donation directly made to Dollar Energy Fund by texting POWER to 50555.

“We are continually inspired by the tremendous customer response to join in our effort to give back to local families during the holiday season,” said Jessica Rock, Vice President of Communications and Corporate Citizenship, Duquesne Light “The Power It Forward campaign is a special way for us to connect with our customers and come together to make a true difference in our region.”

As a formal announcement of the campaign, DLC held a ceremonial lighting of its 80-foot holiday Tree of Lights at Point State Park. The social media campaign was also supported by a Facebook live stream of the inaugural lighting of the City-County Building to kickoff Comcast Light Up Night. DLC partnered with the City to support the permanent installation of a new spectacular array of programmable lighting to commemorate the centennial of the City-County Building.
