Duquesne Light is committed to upholding its core value to be selfless in serving the community, both on the job and through volunteerism. To this end, the Company participates in numerous charitable endeavors throughout the year and encourages employees to get involved. These efforts were recently recognized by the United Way and Fred Rogers Co.
On March 23, Duquesne Light and IBEW Local 29 were presented with the United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania’s 2017 Fred Rogers Good Neighbor Award for exemplary community volunteerism efforts. Specifically, the award recognized the Company’s annual Rodeo & Safety Expo and its partnership with IBEW Local 29 to execute this important event. In 2016, the event raised $20,000 for the United Way, which Duquesne Light matched for a total donation of $40,000. Over the past six years, the event has raised nearly $200,000 for the United Way.
“Duquesne Light is having a tremendous impact on our neighbors in need, and for that we are grateful,” said Lois Mufuka Martin, Chief Volunteer Engagement Officer for the United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania.
This is the second time DLC has received the award. The Company was first honored in 2012.
