Sunny skies and warm temperatures welcomed 120 Duquesne Light volunteers to this year’s KaBOOM! playground build at Baden Academy Charter School in Beaver County. DLC employees were joined by community volunteers, parents and Baden Academy staff to create the new playground for students to enjoy. This playground marks the seventh built by Duquesne Light in partnership with KaBOOM!.
The playground design was based on the student’s “wish list” drawings created during a special Design Day in March. In addition to a variety of play structures, the build area was spacious enough to also accommodate several other features, including an outdoor classroom with a 12-foot by 12-foot stage, picnic tables equipped with chess and checker boards, a newly painted world map, and much more.
Duquesne Light’s ongoing support has helped KaBOOM! continue to promote and protect a child’s right to active play at home, at school and in the community. In addition to the Baden Academy build, DLC has partnered with KaBOOM! to complete playgrounds in North Versailles, Braddock Hills, Midland, McKeesport, Coraopolis and at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium.
Since 1996, KaBOOM! has been dedicated to the bold goal of giving all kids – particularly those growing up in poverty in America – the childhood they deserve, filled with balanced and active play, so they can thrive. With its partners, KaBOOM! has built, improved and opened more than 16,700 playgrounds, engaged more than 1 million volunteers, and served 8.5 million kids.
