A group of Duquesne Light Company employees volunteered to hit the road on Monday, Sept. 11, to help Florida Power & Light combat a record-breaking number of outages caused by Hurricane Irma, and the company sent 39 additional employees down to Florida on Wednesday, Sept. 13, bringing the total to 64.
“While our customers in Allegheny and Beaver counties are our top priority, Duquesne Light Company always is willing to provide help to communities in need, both near and far, through our participation in the mutual assistance program. Harnessing the spirit of unity, collaboration and teamwork, our crews are eager to help restore power to customers in Florida as quickly and safely as possible,” said Mike Doran, Vice President of Operations at Duquesne Light.
The additional group of volunteer crew members included lineworkers and mechanics, among others. Once they arrive in Florida, they will help Florida Power & Light to assess and repair downed wires, replace damaged equipment and set new utility poles.
