Last week, Duquesne Light’s summer interns joined together to assist Friends of the Riverfront in cleaning up and beautifying parts of the city’s Three River Heritage Trail system.

As one of Duquesne Light’s core values, volunteerism is an important component of the internship program. Just as employees from across the organization seek to help the interns gain real world experience and valuable skill sets through work within their disciplines, the Company also strives to share each of its values with the interns.

Pittsburgh is known for its rivers and surrounding outdoor recreation, including the riverfront trails. It’s important that these sites are cared for properly to further encourage people to make use of them.

The interns completed a variety of tasks to assist Friends of the Riverfront, including cleaning-up trash and debris and clearing the trail of overgrown vegetation. Both tasks will help ensure that those who use the trail can do so safely, without the worry of hazards on the path.

“A big thank you to the interns at Duquesne Light Company for joining us today along the trail in the Strip District,” Friends of the Riverfront shared on Facebook. “They worked hard to clear a ton of overgrown vegetation and widen the trail for users!”

Friends of the Riverfront is a local nonprofit organization whose mission is to build safe, clean, and accessible riverfront trails in order to create and maintain an outstanding experience for trail users while providing economic, environmental and health benefits to the Pittsburgh region.
