Duquesne Light highly values the men and women who serve – and have served – our country in the armed forces. To this end, DLC not only seeks to hire and retain these individuals in positions throughout the Company, but also strives to support them in their military endeavors and duties.

This ongoing commitment was recently acknowledged by the Pennsylvania Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) through presentation of the Seven Seals Award to Duquesne Light. Mike McClain, Senior Manager, Meter Operations, accepted the award on the Company’s behalf.

The award recognized Duquesne Light’s support of its veteran and active duty military employees. Dave Kaminski, Auto Service Mechanic, nominated Duquesne Light for the award during his 2016 deployment to Kosovo with the U.S. Army National Guard. Kaminski deployed as Sergeant with the U.S. Army National Guard in February 2016 to Kosovo, where he used his leadership abilities to oversee other soldiers as well as contributed individually as a wheeled vehicle driver and mechanic. He returned in December 2016.

During his 10-month deployment, Kaminski felt compelled to nominate Duquesne Light, and specifically his supervisor, McClain – who was Manager of Transportation at the time – for the support that he felt he received during his service abroad.

“There are many former and current military members working for Duquesne Light, which makes it an easy transition since they know my needs and are always there to help,” Kaminski continued in his nomination. “The Company truly goes above and beyond all expectation, and I would recommend DLC to any service member looking for civilian employment.”

About the Seven Seals Award
The Seven Seals Award is presented by the ESGR in recognition of significant individual or organizational achievement, initiative or support that promotes and supports the ESGR mission. “Seven Seals” signifies the official gratitude from all seven branches of Guard and Reserve service components, and recipients of the prestigious award must be nominated by an employee in order to be eligible.

DLC’s Ongoing Commitment to Military Members
Duquesne Light recently was named a winner of the 2017 Most Valuable Employer for Military recognition by RecruitMilitary, a national leader in helping employers connect with high-quality veteran talent. This honor was created in an effort to recognize employers whose recruiting, training and retention plans best serve military service members and veterans.

DLC continues its ongoing commitment to hiring military veterans through its S.E.R.V.I.C.E. recruitment initiative. The Company also participates in numerous career fairs annually to recruit veterans.
