Duquesne Light Company (DLC) recently received the Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree Line USA award for its best practices in vegetation management – an accolade the Company has received for the past 17 years.
In partnership with the National Association of State Foresters, the Arbor Day Foundation annually presents its Tree Line USA award to organizations demonstrating adherence to utility vegetation management best practices and meeting its five core standards: quality tree care, annual employee/contractor training, tree planting and public education, tree-based energy conservation programing and Arbor Day celebration.
Just as DLC met and exceeded each of the Arbor Day Foundation’s standards in 2017, it continues to demonstrate vegetation management best practices this year, and has maintained its reputation as an industry leader.
As part of its commitment to promoting healthy community forests, DLC celebrated Arbor Day in April by launching a year-long tree planting initiative including plans to donate trees to local parks, communities and customers. The company is partnering with Tree Pittsburgh to plant more trees around the City of Pittsburgh later this year.
DLC invites customers to join it in its tree planting initiative by planting the right tree in the right place, as it strives to ensure that over 45,000 miles of overhead lines remain free and clear of vegetation encroachments. As tress are one of the top causes of power outages, it’s important to make careful choices when planting.
