Duquesne Light Company is dedicated to paying it forward to the communities it serves through its long-standing commitment to employee volunteer efforts. In recognition of National Volunteer Week, DLC is celebrating its employees who go above and beyond to serve the greater Pittsburgh region. Throughout the week of April 16, DLC’s Facebook and Twitter channels will be highlighting a handful of the hundreds of employees that spend time giving back each year, profiling their commitment to volunteerism, what inspires them to give back and their advice for those interested in getting involved.

“DLC is proud to foster a work environment that is dedicated to giving back,” said Jessica Rock, Vice President of Communications and Corporate Citizenship, Duquesne Light. “Whether it is distributing safe and reliable electrical service to power the lives of those in our region, or dedicating time to volunteer outside of work, I am continuously inspired by our employees’ desire to improve our community.”

DLC will be showcasing five of its employees on its social media channels by highlighting a few of their favorite charities and most memorable moments volunteering. Notable stories include meeting WWII veterans, helping students further their STEM education, pulling more than 300 tires out of Pittsburgh rivers and even rappelling down the side of the Koppers building downtown.

In 2017, DLC employees dedicated more than 3,600 total hours of community service to organizations such as The American Red Cross, Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, KaBOOM!, Southwestern Veterans Center and The Education Partnership. To demonstrate its commitment to volunteerism and charitable giving, the company launched its Power It Forward campaign in 2016, which is designed to inspire kindness and reciprocal goodwill among thousands of Pittsburghers during key moments throughout the year.

National Volunteer Week was established by President Richard Nixon in 1974 to encourage the spirit of volunteerism throughout the country and to honor those who make it a priority to give back.
