The 2018 Duquesne Light Pittsburgh Home & Garden Show was a resounding success thanks to the more than 200 employees who volunteered their time on “Electric Lane.” Part of that success involved activities that raised more than $2,000 for the Dollar Energy Fund. Visitors to Electric Lane had two opportunities to contribute a charitable donation to the organization. Attendees could donate $5 to be entered for a chance to win a gift certificate for $1,500 toward any appliance purchase from Dormont Appliance. In addition, for every picture taken at an interactive photo booth featuring DLC work crew props and shared on social media, DLC donated $5 to the Dollar Energy Fund. The final dollar total included a dollar-for-dollar match by DLC.
“We were grateful for the opportunity to partner with DLC during this year’s Home & Garden Show,” said Chad Quinn, Chief Executive Officer, Dollar Energy Fund. “We appreciate the continued support from Duquesne Light and its employees, and look forward to assisting low-income electric customers across the region with the funds that were raised.”
Employee Volunteers Lend a Hand on “Electric Lane”
More than 200 employees volunteered to make this year’s event a success. Many volunteers assisted with the peel-and-win game, which proved to be popular again with attendees as they had the chance to win a variety of giveaways, including an LED lightbulb or nightlight, USB wall charger or $50 off a future Duquesne Light electric bill.
Many areas of the Company were represented along the Lane, including Safety, Operations and Vegetation Management. Visitors also enjoyed appearances by Wattley, who is always a hit with the kids in attendance.
20th Year as Home & Garden Show Sponsor
This year’s Home & Garden show marked the 20th year DLC has sponsored the popular event, which was held March 2-11 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in downtown Pittsburgh.
This year’s Home & Garden Show featured nearly 1,800 exhibitors, covering more than 10 acres. DLC’s “Electric Lane” exhibit was again one of the show’s main attractions, giving attendees the opportunity to learn about DLC’s electric vehicle (EV) efforts, safety around power lines, how we respond during storms and power outages and much more.
New additions to the lane included an interactive EV map and “Driving into the Future” infographic display, a giant chalkboard wall for attendees to share their favorite thing about Pittsburgh and the interactive “photo booth.”
