Duquesne Light Company (DLC) recently partnered with the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership (PDP) to bring a brand-new public art display to the alleyway of Garrison Place, as part of a PDP initiative to enliven downtown alleyways with lighting, artwork, and pedestrian enhancements.

The display, Garrison Canal, was created by artist Andrea Polli as a visual depiction of an imaginary underwater future world of big data. The artwork was created using materials from the popular Energy Flow, the lighted display recently removed from the Rachel Carson Bridge, which DLC also helped support. The new display hangs above the alleyway in Garrison Place and responds to real time changes in local weather conditions as visitors walk below.

DLC helped fund the creation of the Garrison Canal and also assisted with the installation of the display above the alleyway. The piece of art can be viewed in Garrison Place, between the 900 block of Liberty Avenue and Exchange Way and is expected to remain in place until May of 2019.
