Duquesne Light’s Executive Administrative Coordinators recently organized a volunteer event at Treasure House Fashions, a nonprofit, quality women’s resale clothing shop in the North Hills area of Pittsburgh.

The organization focuses on promoting the dignity and self-esteem of women, particularly those who are in a period of transition or crisis. Treasure House collaborates with more than 65 area agencies to help women in need. With gift certificates in hand, these women have the dignity of shopping for what they like, as well as what they need, in an affirming atmosphere.

During their time at Treasure House, the DLC employees provided administrative assistance by helping to organize a variety of files and retail materials. This type of volunteerism is better known as “skills-based” volunteering, because the women contributed their professional skills and expertise to help benefit the organization.

“We chose to support Treasure House because they assist women in need, and any of us could find ourselves in a similar situation unexpectedly due to a medical issue or divorce, for example,” said Arlyn Anderson. “This served as a great team building exercise, and we really enjoyed working with each other to make a difference.”
