DLC employees have a long history of community involvement. That commitment shines through this time of year as they go the extra mile to help ensure those who are less fortunate have a happy and joyous holiday season.
Employees Bring Joy to Local Veterans
On Dec. 7, more than 30 DLC employees and family members gave back to local veterans by personally delivering gifts to the residents of the Southwestern Veterans Center. This year, 65 veteran patients were adopted by employees across the Company who purchased “wish list” items ranging from blankets and slippers to snacks.
Employees never tire of the good conversations and the veterans’ appreciation. Southwestern Veterans Center provides a broad spectrum of health care and related services to veterans who are disabled, chronically ill or in need of specialized care. This marked Duquesne Light’s 12th year participating in the Veteran Patients Gift Project.
Another Successful “Stuff the Bus” Event
Each year, employees across the Company participate in the IBEW Local 29 “Labor of Love Stuff the Bus Toy Drive.” The annual event enables DLC employees and other Local 29 members to help families in need during the holiday season by donating gifts for area children who may not otherwise receive them.
On Dec. 6, the gifts were loaded onto a Port Authority bus to be distributed just in time for the holidays. Overall, more than $800 in gift cards and 1,000 individual gifts were collected to help benefit those in need.
