In 2016, Duquesne Light and DQE Communications, along with other local organizations, partnered to launch Energy Flow, an innovative light installation on the Rachel Carson Bridge, as part of the city’s annual Light Up Night celebrations.

It was recently announced that Energy Flow was named the winner of the 2018 Mayor’s Award for Public Art, an award from City of Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto and Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council with the Office of Public Art. This recognition acknowledges the power of public art to benefit the city economically, socially and aesthetically, and to celebrate those who are most committed to supporting this important element of the city’s arts community.

Energy Flow was a collaboration between artist Andrea Polli and alternative energy developer, Ron Gdovic, of WindStax Energy, a wind turbine manufacturer. In a news release, Mayor Peduto shared, “This project was the perfect marriage of art and science and a fitting tribute to the legacy of innovation in Pittsburgh.”

Installation, infrastructure and fiber optics were provided by DLC and DQE Communications.
