Duquesne Light Company Drives Donations at 37th Annual Pittsburgh Home & Garden Show

In its 20th Year of Title Sponsorship, DLC Boosts its Charitable Efforts with the Dollar Energy Fund

PITTSBURGH – Duquesne Light Company (DLC) continues its commitment to energizing the Pittsburgh region at the 37th Annual Duquesne Light Pittsburgh Home & Garden Show at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, March 2–11, 2018. Celebrating its 20th year as the title sponsor of the event, the Company has updated its “Electric Lane” to feature new educational materials and interactive displays, including one highlighting the benefits of electric vehicles.

Commitment to EVs

Vehicle electrification is a key component to the regions energy future, and DLC is helping to pave the way. According to the PennEnvironment, electric vehicles have been hitting the U.S. streets in record numbers. Nationwide sales increased 36 percent from 2015-2016, and an additional 26 percent from 2016-2017. With that level of growth, DLC is focusing on new technologies to meet customers' changing needs. DLC also plans to increase the number of direct current (DC) fast-charging stations throughout the greater Pittsburgh area to help alleviate range anxiety amongst EV drivers.

Over the past year, DLC has undergone a transformation into a next generation energy company, which has involved the modernization of its infrastructure, implementation of enhanced technology, and launch of its official EV initiative. As part of this strategy, DLC has committed to allocating at least five percent of its annual fleet purchases to electric vehicles, and plans to increase its investment to more than 20 percent in 2019. DLC’s current electric fleet includes nine plug-in hybrid compact passenger vehicles, four plug-in hybrid bucket trucks and three electric forklifts.

Pittsburgh Home & Garden Show

Hundreds of thousands of Pittsburgh residents attend the Duquesne Light Home & Garden Show each year, seeking fresh ideas to improve their living space. Located on the second floor, guests who visit “Electric Lane” can expect to find new features including:

  • Electric Vehicle Education. The display includes educational information and materials, a branded hybrid electric bucket truck, “peel-and-win” tickets for prizes, and new exhibits, including an interactive EV distance map and “Driving Into The Future” infographic wall.

  • $1,500 Appliance Raffle. Dollar Energy Fund will be on hand raffling off a gift certificate for $1,500 toward any appliance from Dormont Appliance. Visitors can donate $5 to be entered for a chance to win, with DLC matching all donations and all proceeds going to the Dollar Energy Fund.

  • Two Interactive Photo Walls. Visitors can either join the DLC crew, complete with props and scenic background, or write their answer to the question “My favorite thing about Pittsburgh is…” on a giant chalkboard wall. For every photo snapped and shared on social media using the hashtag #DLCHome2018, DLC also will donate $5 to the Dollar Energy Fund.*
