DLC bucket truck parked on residential street

DLC schedules power outages to complete maintenance, make improvements, and implement large growth projects.  Scheduling a power outage allows our crews to safely replace damaged or aging equipment or upgrade the system to increase electric reliability and support future growth. Outages may also need scheduled to clear power lines of branches or vegetation encroachments.

DLC appreciates our customers’ patience as we complete this necessary work. Learn more about planned outages below.

What to Expect

  • Customers will be notified in advance by phone call, text, and/or email. In certain circumstances, crews may hang fliers on your front door with details of the scheduled outage. Keep your contact information current. Visit your Account Settings to view or make changes. If an emergency repair is needed, advanced notice of the outage may not be possible.
  • Our electric system is made up of circuits. Premises can be on different circuits;  therefore, it is possible your premise may be affected by a planned outage and your next door neighbor is not.  The length of a planned outage may also be different than that of a neighbor.
  • Situations such as inclement weather could cause a planned outage to be rescheduled or canceled. If this is the case, we will notify customers of the new date and time.
  • Depending on the complexity of the work, planned outages may take more than one day to complete.  Visit our Reliability Projects page for information about long-term projects.

Home Entry & Access

  • If power is lost, your garage door opener will not work.  Be sure to have a house key to regain entry into your home, or know  how to manually operate your garage door if you are not at home when the power is lost.
  • If your home has a security system, consult your owner's manual or contact subscribing provider. You may need to disengage the system before or while your service is interrupted.

Electronic Equipment

  • Use surge suppressors to protect sensitive electronic equipment, such as computers. It is recommended to unplug sensitive equipment before a planned outage. If you forget to do so, unplug the equipment before your service is restored; however, we recommend consulting the appliances' owner's manual.
  • If you leave your home while the power is out, double-check that all heat producing appliances, such as stoves, irons and curling irons are unplugged.
  • Have flashlights, a battery-powered radio and fresh batteries in an easily accessible area.

Medication, Foods & Other Supplies

  • Check medications that require refrigeration to be sure you know if they will be affected by an interruption of power. Consult a doctor or pharmacist if you're not sure. You could use a small cooler  for special medication.
  • Always have a first-aid kit with current supplies in a convenient location.
  • Follow proper food safety measures. Refrigerated food should be safe for about four hours. Food in a full, free-standing freezer will stay at freezing temperatures for about 48 hours without power, a half-full freezer will stay frozen for about 24 hours.
  • Cordless phones will not work when the power is out. Have at least one cell phone available for use during outages.
  • Periodically, check supplies of non-perishable foods, bottled water and medication. Stock up if needed.
