The year 2024 was historic for Duquesne Light Company (DLC) and its customers. Take a look back on just some of what we accomplished last year.
In June, DLC launched its new outage management system providing customer outage alert notifications, a real-time outage map and an enhanced phone system. All will proactively provide outage updates to customers. By 2027, DLC will invest at least $1.9 billion into its transmission and distribution infrastructure with the intent to increase reliability and decrease outages.
To boost power reliability, we installed our first Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and a smart cable guard system. With BESS, DLC can provide electric service to around 100 homes in Hookstown during power outages. We also announced the selection of DNV’s smart cable guard system to enable us to identify and address potential issues within our underground cable system faster. Another program introduced was the DLC referral network which connects you with qualified solar panel and wood removal providers.
More than 11,000 customers received payment assistance through our partnership with the Dollar Energy Fund and the Low Income Heating and Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). The Duquesne Light Veterans Workforce Center—a dedicated workforce development space for homeless and low- income veterans in the Pittsburgh area—opened. Following the aftermath of hurricanes Helene and Milton, we provided mutual assistance to utilities in Florida and Virginia. We also donated $10,000 to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank contributing $10 for every customer that switched to paperless in December.
These accomplishments are just some of what we did in 2024. For more, visit our newsroom. We’re excited for the projects and services coming in 2025 that have YOU in mind.
